This specialization prepares professionals to plan and deliver preventive health services to communities and individuals, including underserved communities and populations with special needs. Graduates of this specialization are prepared to conduct and evaluate services that improve the delivery of programs to reduce individual risk factors for disease. Graduates are also prepared to promote the health of communities.
This program focuses on seeking solutions to significant public health problems and applying and integrating new knowledge into public health research and practice settings. The curriculum is focused on community health, including medical, social, political, ethical and economic factors that contribute to an overall well-being of a public health system and to the community it serves.
This specialization serves students interested in providing leadership in health promotion and education in settings such as communities; schools; work sites; clinics; and government agencies. The specialization prepares students to provide leadership in the planning and administration of health promotion and education programs, and leadership in conducting evaluative research on the effectiveness of those programs.
The epidemiology specialization focuses on the scientific understanding of the causes, distribution, control and prevention of disease in populations.
The Health and Human Behavior specialization focuses on how individuals, groups within organizations and populations act and react within the context of individual and community well being and illness. This specialization includes complementary healthcare, public health policy, ethics, and gerontology.
This specialization prepares professionals to administer health and medical care services within the integrated delivery systems model. This specialization also prepares professionals to become administrators of health profession programs (e.g. nursing, public health and allied health) in higher education institutions.
